jetta SG How is everyone this weekend? Any plans? I don’t know what I’ll be doing but I wish we could be skiing. My kids have never skiied before. Want them to experience it before winter’s over.
the Bear SG i got woken up.. my mom is teaching a neighbour's primary 3 child english however, he's stuck with a math problem two actually.. he's given two "math" questions which require either multi-dimensional simultaneous calculation or pure trial and error.. and the primary 3 children don't even know what the hell the question is trying to tell them... and these "sums" are stressing the hell out of them.. i have the feeling the education ministry is trying to find the next Carl Gauss or Leonhard Euler... the hell with the rest..
ShrodingersCat SG actually nowadays they like to teach a lot of trial and error sums i think .. it is good in the sense that it teaches children that sometimes maths does not mean just knowing the formula... but finding the answer thru trial and error can make sense too.. but yeah i tried a few of these sums and i'm stumped
SBS3625D SG If learning maths means knowing how you get to the answer, then trial and error is simply not the way. I is lurving maths, but only when I can understand the problem. And since I love maths, naturally I fell in love with physics and economics.
ShrodingersCat SG that's the thing.. i tihnk a lot of kids sort of 'give up' when they cannot get the answer... but a lot of times, it should not be the case ba. A lot of trial and error is also based on logical deductions - and kids need to learn that too.
